    I think these two things are the best answers to the "under 10" barrel thing;
    its a good bit more powder that your not taking advantage of in a short barrel...
    ...........3" bar......................10" bar......................18" bar

    22mag 1150fps/117lbs.........1800fps/288lbs............2000fps/355lbs

    22lr ....950fps/80lbs.............1150fps/117lbs...........1200fps/128lbs

    But for the right price I'd buy one just because it's a 30 rounder, wish they made a 22lr one too

    CCI MiniMag 40gr VS CCI MaxiMag 40gr
    Look at the difference between 22mag in a 3" barrel annd 22lr in a 10" barrel.
    I stand by my prior post. In anything less than a 10" barrel, a .22mag is a very loud (and expensive) .22lr.

    check out <ballisticsbytheinch.com> very interesting. Take 2" off a .223 barrel (18" down to 16") and you turn a definite white-tail killer(almost 1200lbs) into a marginal gun(a little over 1000lbs)
    Hunter,

    you know i think your an awesome dude & great member here on the board, but your kinda cheating on your stance in this.. :-)

    its an unfair compare anytime you take a 3" vs a 10"... any woman can tell that story. LMAO

    im a numbers guy... so yes i read exactly what you posted.. & it happens that i like the exact ammo you listed.

    but i also own & shoot both of these guns. They are not equal when in similar set ups.

    22mag 3" barrel... 1150fps/117lbs..

    22lr 3" barrel ....950fps/80lbs...
    NOT THE SAME..... 37 more pounds is a pretty good bit.

    you can take a 45acp vs 9mm & get the same type of numbers if you use the correct barrel lengths... but they aint the same animal either.

    how many people actually have a 10" 22lr pistol in their pocket? uh..... NONE

    most people have a 3-5" 22lr pistol in a walther p22 or ruger..

    & you have this 4" pmr30 in 22mag...

    compare these heads up & actually shoot/test them. which has been done lots of places on the net already. the results are not the same.

    but agree with you..... i dont carry this gun for "invader defense".. still use the FNHerstal for that.

    this PMR30 is great for in the woods & when we ride. its light, doesnt mind dirt or dust or mud from riding. easy to clean & yes it will handle any herd of creatures we stumble on & still have ANOTHER 20 rnds left over. very nice on that part.

    Speer makes a 22 WMR that is designed for short barrels. It is called Speer Gold Dot Short Barrel Personal Protection. Last time I saw some (and bought some) was the end of March. Here is a speer press release about it Speer Bullets - Press Releases..
    And cdnn had (not sure if they still do) some PMR-30's for $499.

    at a little after the 2 minute point it might show what you are asking about. I'm trying to find some other videos.

    From the Speer link above;
    Short Barrel, Strong Performance
    These loads are designed for compact rimfire handguns and specific self defense applications. A large cavity ensures maximum expansion and terminal ballistics at reduced velocities. Consistent 10 to 11-inch penetration was achieved in factory testing--in barrels as short as two inches.
    That's a good video Sniper, thanks

    I just looked on CDNN, OOS on the pistols

    The people that I know that carry 22lr just grab whatever ammo is available so a 22wmr is an advantage no matter the barrel length, Ill have to keep an eye out for that glod dot all ive ever seen around here is maximags.

    another thought, why doesnt anybody make a 30rd 22lr pistol? if it can be done with wmr why not lr?
