    Default development of the AK-47

Stoner and Armalite were very clear about the two driving factors for the development of the M16: it was to be a highly accurate rifle, and it was to be as light as possible.

I've always held that the AK-47 was primarily intended to be a submachine gun, and now there's some Soviet documentation attesting to this: Soviet Gun Archives: AK Trials As I've held, the AK was an enhanced replacement for the PPS/PPSh.

The amusing thing is how the M16 has evolved into the snubby M4 as troops had more use for a handy carbine/SMG than a tack-driving rifle... meanwhile, the Krinkov guys are sniggering in their beards.

Pretty good info. Nice find TRX.
    Enforcement, NOT Amnesty!!!!!!

"If they’re going to come here illegally, apply for & receive assistance through a corrupted Government agency encouraging this lawless behavior, work under the table & send billions of dollars each year back to their families in Mexico, while bleeding local economies dry, protest in our streets waving their Mexican flags DEMANDING rights, while I have to press ’1′ for English, then they need to be shipped back to where they came from!" -Chad Miller

yea-- the AK was to replace the ppsh bullet sprayer.

much of what went on with the soviets is simply what was cheap and effective to do.

sort of like why the AK was finally chambered in 7.62x39

they had all the machinery for the caliber ,the ammo was in production , so thats what they went with.

it was all about production. machinery, tooling, ramp up production and deployment.

design changes were to speed up production, reduce costs and speed up deployment of the weapon.
