At first that was what I was thinking of doing, but what if the heat of the lead causes the laminates to distort or separate?

That's why I was thinking about melting into a tube, then installing the weight tube into the stock... no heat.

If you melt lead use tubes. Or use lead shot and epoxy
it in. You will need the equivalant of three tubes the size
of the hole in butt for stock bolt. The gun should come with
an iron bar in that hole. Replace with lead and try to get two
    more in the butt.Ed

Aren't the mercury recoil reducers more effective? With that much gun I would want every little bit of reduction I could find!

I believe they are. However I'm trying to get his launched on the economy side. If later on I decide I need more, I will swap out the lead tubes for mercury at a later date. At least that's the plan. I may shoot it once and buy the mercury... never know!

Damm im going to end up spending money on one of these, i just know it. what do the bolt actions go for on the used market? Im thinking if Im going to do this might as well go for the long barrel high pressure and the whole deal. I do have a handi rifle all ready though. and the barrel still will use 3" shells so it wont hurt any thing to rechamber it. Decisions decisions

For our heavier loads only use a NEF 12ga Ultra
Slug Gun, with the big heavy barrel. The one with
1.07" muzzle and called a SB2 model. SB2s are alloy
    heatreated frames for more strength.Ed

Here is picture of a dart type 12ga slug Rob made. Body
is aluminum, it has a heavy tungsten carbide insert in the
nose. The TC in the nose is about 5 times denser than AL.
Total length is 2.35 inches, weight about 950 gr. The .75" long
insert a real tight type fit. Heat AL, put in insert, cools, locks on.
It is fairly streamlined, yet has wide meplat for penetration
in game. Flat points penetrate straighter in game.
It is hollow inside in the back, behind insert which puts the
center of gravity way up front, it should fly straight even from
a smoothbore. They are fast to make and material
less expense than copper. In pic is a copper and a brass 600
cal slugs for comparison. Dart/slug on right has insert.Ed

Those are great! Is there a preferred load for these in the 12FH?
