Default Metal Detecting on the WWII Eastern Front

Very cool video about some guys who went metal detecting at the site of a skirmish between the Germans and Soviet troops on the eastern front. Some very cool stuff was unearthed.

Back in the mid 70s growing up on Okinawa we dug up alot of bullets, jap canteen, knee mortars, gernades japanese and american, bazooka rounds. Only gun i found was a rifle in a creek but this was before any of us collected stuff. My dad tossed it in the trash.

seen similar videos before, I agree interesting, russian mobsters used to dig up firearms during communist era, article was in American Rifleman
there is another side to "some" of these videos - grave robbing I don't subscribe to that no matter how cool it looks, many of these stes are war graves and deserve that respect regardless the side they fought on.
yes Im aware not all finds are associated with graves
Sprat and sprat1 are one and the same.

Yes! This is a very important point. I am all for history sturdy and archaeology. I am not for disturbing the fallen, unless it is to re-inter them in their native soil, accompanied by full honors, regardless of what side they fought on. Right is right, and the fallen deserve their respect and their honors..

Read the article s on mob guys digging up and selling guns on the black market. Around here all you would find would be a muzzle loader from the 1860's.

I think I read the same article, they called them Black Pathfinders IIRC. I don't think the hole he dug was a grave, just a hole they threw a bunch of weapons in and buried to prevent being captured and used by the enemy. Too many weapons in one spot.
I'd rather be a "has been" than a wannabe!
