    Thanks

    I signed the petition.

And a minor housekeeping note: although some threads would seem to belong in several different ares, only put it in one place. Keeps duplicate threads from confusing an issue.

I won't sign the petition because of the following statement
the United States Solicitor General filed formal briefs asking the Supreme Court not to affirm the lower court?s decision.
Let me explain, but the bottom line is I feel angered; that Representative Eric Cantor has made a misleading statement, one meant to inflame rather than inform.

That statement (regarding the SG brief) prompted me to locate and read the brief itself: http://armsandthelaw.com/archives/07...itedStates.pdf 35 pages of legalese, but written plainly enough. Tough read but worth it, to me.

While that brief's statement and apparent purpose worry me, the brief does NOT ask the "Supreme Court not to affirm the lower court?s decision" but rather asks the Supreme Court to remand the case (return the case) the lower court for additional review. Remand neither denies nor affirms, but is a way for the SCOTUS to request review and clarification by the lower court.

This is not the same as asking the SCOTUS to "not affirm" the ruling of the lower court, it is asking the SCOTUS to consider that Constitutional law is best served by remand.

I disagree with a basic premise of the brief, in that the Solicitor General explicitly seeks to continue regulation such as the NFA, and supports regulation in general. To be honest, while I disagree with the SG he HAS done his homework, and does put forth a reiteration of the 2001 policy statement made by the SG that the Second Amendment respects an individual right to both keep and bear arms.
