Think "parts kits" to repair existing mags.

Dang, I'm havin to think hard about this just so I don't hafta go to the garage and get a head count....Lets see.....

-For my 5.56 AR I have 2-20 round mags, 26-30 round mags, 1-Beta C Mag drum for when I need to basically be a SAW gunner.
-My 6.8SPC AR I have 2-5 round mags, 4-14 round mags, 2-25 round mags (why the odd numbers that they hold? The mags are the same overall length as the 5.56 mags so mag pouches n stuff will work with the 5.56 and the 6.8 stuff)
-For my Mak 90 I have 2-5 rounders, 8-30 rounders, 1-75 round drum
-For my AK74 I have 15-30 round mags

I think I just about have enough of each.

When I worked LE I carried 6 pistol mags and 9 rifle mags on every shift. Can you really have too much ammo?

I think that 8 30 round mags per gun is plenty (240 rounds RTG) to get you through an encounter, plus you'll probably be lugging around loose ammo, pack full of gear, sidearm (at least 3 extra mags here), so weight is an issue. If I'm not free and away or "they" ain't dead yet, it's going to be a bad day... So might as well reload from cover. Toting 2 guns w/2 types of mags, that's even more cumbersome. I have an SKS mdl M and an AK wire folder with 10 mags (they use same mags), 70 lbs of gear, 20-25 lbs more for BDU/Tac vest, plus any loose ammo or other supplies... so I think it's going to be a bit of a chore to stay moving as quickly as I'd hope to be

It really depends on your location, your distance from where you want to be, number of weapons, rate of fire and weight of ammunition. Enough to get you there, and not so many that you are slowed down the point of disability.

Big difference between getting a couple of miles away on foot or planning a bug-out-vehicle trip across the state.
