the original sheet metal is copper brazed and spot welded to the trunnions, it is a bitch to remove.
both the pe 57 & Amt are basically the same except for the bbl.
Voland you are right on. I looked at my kits and they appear to be both spot welded and forge welded at the front trunnion. I got one off by carefully milling of the received stub, but getting one back on might require some drilling and tapping the trunnion and using hardened screw like on a AK screw build. Wont look original but it should work. Does anyone know if the PE57 and the STG57 are in fact one and the same. Also is the receiver for the AMT in 308 the same as the PE57, also are the internals the same on all three versions. Graywolf
This is one great thread - hope to see one of these beasts spitting lead at the range one day!
Any idea where to get barrels? DSA is out and well, let's just say CO gunworks is mighty proud...(if they're even in stock).
Crap, I traded my pe 57 kit for an stg 58 kit 2 years ago.
Good luck guys. That Swiss rifle is a finely engineered piece of art.
I'm just tagging this thread in the event I may land another pe kit.

I was on Military Photos tonite looking for pictures of YUGO M70's in action, and I found a rare pic of a SIG being used in Kosovo. Can't say I've ever seen one of these actually being carried in combat.
