I'm going to build my spring-loaded firing pin

Kits on gunbroker, ORF, and I can't remember but there were some other places that had them in stock... usually with a US barrel.

I tried to make one, but after hardening, it became too brittle and broke really fast.

ORF is out of kits. If I can find a decent price on kits, I'd be inclined to buy one of these receivers, barrel or not.

The spring loaded firing pins were added to the Galil as a feature in 1984-86. This was also the period when the receivers were changed to take the M16 magazine adapters. In South Africa the first R4's had no firing pin spring and had a carry handle. This was around 1980-81. About a yesr later the new R4's were turned in to be modified. The carry handles were removed and a sort of "spring was dded to the firing pin. It's really an o-ring bushing and the firing pins were drilled for a cross pin to retain a circular retainer. Some years later South Africa tested the Steyr AUG and rejected it right away as it wouldn't reliably fire the hard primer South African 5.56mm ammo. The firing pin and ammo were made this way due to slamfire problems with the early R4's.

I'm already ready to shoot it! These things fall together really fast. The hard part was building the SAR piston. I'm not done with it - still need a cutter to do some of the last little bits, and I need a new magazine retainer spring. I built the magazine catch from scratch based on photos. It isn't as pretty as factory, but it works.

Muzzle brake built from a photo in the Buddy Hinton collection. Looks more like the Belgian combo muzzle device that was on my FNC!

I'm really intrigued by this photo of SA Recce on patrol. I haven't seen seen many pictures of Galils painted in camo colors. I may paint mine like this! I am going to make a US pistol grip for mine, as I have some another PG project in progress, and I can add this to the mold. Then I get some real SAR handguards and I'll be set! US parts will be the muzzle brake, piston, receiver, floorplate, and pistol grip.

I saw on your web site where you modified a floating pin to sprung. I just bought a brand new sprung pin from Polytech for $14.95 + $4.95 shipping. I might have done your trick, but I didn't have a pin to start with.

ORF seems to be charging the original price on their receivers again. Where can you get the $149.95 price you are talking about?
