    Default Maadi Griffin Build

I put a Maadi together and used a 50 cal barrel that was chambered from GB
It came out well and shoots very well.
My 15 year old shoots it standing up off the shoulder

I picked up an 8" piece of 4140 for the receiver and a 6" piece for the bolt. Yow! $18 for one, $11 for the other. 4140 ain't cheap.

I looked over these plans. Very interesting! I have no idea what a chambered .50 BMG barrel would even go for, but I don't even have a place to shoot one as all the ranges prevent that since it erodes the backstops so quickly. A different caliber could be interesting however. Maybe a .45-70

SO how many carbide bits does it take to get to the center of a M-G chamber

.50 barrels were $75-$125, pre-Nov'08. Last I looked they were mostly still over $300, which is the price of a new Pac-Nor rifled .720 caliber barrel, so why not just build the big one?

Numrich and Sarco both have new take-off barrels in .458 Win and similar calibers that could be used. I'm going to make an adapter sleeve for the rifled 12 ga barrel I'm using, and thread the receiver for the 1919 barrel. Might as well pick *some* standard...

I'm still disappointed the "blank" turned out to be a lightweight profiled but unchambered part. As thin as it gets by midbarrel, I don't think it would be safe to run full Hubel loads, but it'll do until I can scrimp up the bucks for the Pac-Nor.

    trx,
after some brain cell loss, one of these would work well for me in .45-70. green mtm has blanks that the OD is +1" that I can single point cut 1x14 for a light bull barrel.
