Nice! Those look great. I have made .45 grips from bone, but never thought of making my own micarta.

RB, I'm waiving beer money at you.

Can you make me a set from green and brown canvas?

How many FRN's would it require?

Try carbon fiber cloth, and West System and after final finishing, coat with clear marine Gel Coat, dandy results and you can get the clear in every thing from gloss to non skid, Works great.. Your results came out great and the Gel Coat will work perfectly with your methods of construction railbuggy.

    Coils and Tanvil,
The unfinished blanks don't take to much time to make and cure, but I don't have a reg 1911 to use as a guide for fit.The Taurus grips are somehow not the same as a standard 1911 grips.

    Example:TAURUS 1911 Dymondwood

railbuggy - those look nice! I keep thinking of micarta when I see your pic.

Reminds me of a buddy of mine that made a set of wood grips for his 1911 out of curly maple and then couldn't stop at one set (I've seen at least 10 of his wood sets, and he has made plenty more). Seems making them was like potato chips.

Now if you made a set that looked like the black micarta handles of a knife then you could have a matching handgun and knife set.

Tell me something like this in OD and faded khaki wouldn't look bad ass on a 1911 with the old greened by cosmoline, parkerized, worn finish.

I could probably send you a set of G.I. grips.
No pressure, if you don't want to mess with it. But if you do....

Like Tanvil said, I could send you a set of wood grips (one of them is cracked) to copy from if you want. I only asked because you sounded like you were enjoying it as a time passer type thing, if you don't want to that's fine by me and I understand.

Good job Rb , that is awesome ... I am impressed. I bought a band saw this past year just for grips , and with your technique , that will make for some very interesting grips for other guns.
