    Default fantasy shotgun

Someone posted a screen capture of this thing. It's apparently a weapon from some game. I did some searching and found someone had done a full-size paper model of it, by using screen captures and some kind of video editing software to generate a 3D model and printer patterns... it would be useful to know how to do that.

Anyway, I was trying to figure out how you might build a real shotgun that looked like the model. It would be an SBR to start with, of course. A magazine would have to be made, and it would have to be recoil or gas operated.

Unfortunately, I don't think it would be possible to build it. The position of the ejection port is the main problem; it's right over the trigger group, and anything cycling back out of the receiver would bite the hand of the operator.

Kinda looks like a PPsh from hell.
Drum is far forward, does not look practical.
Move drum back toward chamber and
    I think you have something.
I like the look of it.

Yah, that would be an idea. Something similar but buildable. For some reason it's impressive as all getout, even if obviously impractical.

    Hello TRX,
There has been a 12 ga blow-back SMG years ago.

I have been thinking about a blow-back shotgun. Is it possible? Most semi-autos that don't use gas have some type of lock. I have seen the single shot called terminator, but it didn't have a mag.

Can someone post a pic or link to one.

Take a look at the Vietnam-era Atchisson AA-12 blow-back operated 12 guage shotgun. Yes, the early model was a simple blowback action with a 1.4 KG (3+ lbs) bolt. info @
    Modern Firearms - Atchisson AA-12

This combat weapon was designed and built by Maxwell Atchisson about 1970. It appears to use a modified BAR box magezine.

Cool I would say the bolt would have to be pretty heavy haha.

Harumph. I knew about the 1985 AA-12 - I have an "Assault Weapons" magazine from that time with a feature article on it. But I never knew about the 1970 version. Definitely a tube gun, there.

Even with a three pound bolt, I wonder what the shells looked like when they were ejected...

TRX, next time you're in a used book store and have some time to browse, look for the "Able Team" series of paperbacks. An 80s "spinoff" of the Mack Bolan/Executioner series. One of the characters used an Atchisson open bolt shotgun as his primary heavy weaponry, lots of cover paintings with him using it and the story where he acquires it even got the history of it right. Amazingly, all the books related to the Executioner series actually get the weaponry right most of the time. I can only recall one or two I've read where the guy flicks the safety off of his SIG P226......
