    Default Something Different

My first time attempt at making a somewhat traditional Bowie knife, or any knife for that matter.
Been watching how to vids on Youtube and decided to give it a shot.
I had a big sheet of 440 SS, brass and some black walnut, so it was a no $ project.

I cut out the blade blank with a mini grinder.
Used a bench grinder and belt sander to get the basic shape, hand filed the blade grind.
Heat treat was done with charcoal and quenched in a bucket of old hydraulic fluid.
Sharpening was done on a wet stone, nice and sharp edge, hope it holds up.
Started an old timey looking sheath, still need to stitch it up.

    Thanks..
I got a Tandy leather making kit for my 16th birthday, 40 years ago.
20 years ago I made and sold custom concealment gun holsters for a short time.
Damn near ruined a hobby I really enjoy, now I just do it for fun.

Nice BBQ knife...looks great. I have been saving some leaf spring from my old Mach I for just such a project too.
I like the mountain man style...great sheath too. Curious about how you do the brass rivets for the grip panels.

They are not rivets, it's just brass rod.
The grip panels and the brass rod are epoxied to the tang.
