I was going to post a mandrel is useful so long as you can ram it in the press. Just taper the top of it and use plenty of grease. I used a mandrel to form my .45 WinMag bodies from 1x2" tubing. Unfortunately my magwell requires some tweaking to get a better mag fit but the mag itself works successfully after mandrel-izing it

Question - I've successfully used my 9mm Uzi mags with my .40 cal Uzi barrel conversion. Capacity is the only thing affected. That being said, if the magwell on your MP5 will hold 9mm magazines, you should be able to recruit those into service. I haven't tried stuffing .40 cases into the MP5 9mm mags... does that work?

I have curved 9mm mags, they dont work. The mp5 40 mags are extra long for 10mm cartridge same mags. The uzi might work with lots of spacers..

Hrm well that's too bad that the MP5 mags are sooooo tight they can't fit a .40 case.

Wonder about the straight MP5 mags found on RobertRTG... wonder if they are made any different... probably not

Internal dimensions are 20.5 mm x 33.5 mm.

If I roll my own I can hit these exactly. And use 4130 and heat treat the lips.

If I mandrel tube it will be quick and easy but not exact or heat treatable ...

OK now I see the problem w/ the 9mm mags... the Germans dimple the front of their magazines so a .40 case simply won't fit properly... first time I've seen a 9mm mag do that! OK scratch that idea!

Another thought - what about those 9mm mags that Tapco makes? I think they are for an AR-15 9mm but not sure. Those may work since I'm pretty sure they are a simple rectangle on the inside just like Uzi mags. Just spitballing ideas here.

I have several types of Uzi/ar15 9mm mags. None of them do well. I can fix the followers (make new) and that will help. With factory follower after loading 5 40S&W the rim is .159" below the feed lip... If I shim the back of the follower after 13 rounds the rim is .090" below the feed lip. That *might* work.

Its stupid that you cant get HK mp5/40 mags in the US.

45 thompson mags (serious mods to the top for fit seem to be workable for 5-7 rounds but then they wedge in side.

Thompson made a 10mm tommy gun (semi) but there is no info other than one guy saying stock 45 mags work. I call BS on this as none of my many thompson mags do well by hand after 10 rounds.
