I've got an itty-bitty 7x10 (actually 7x8) mini lathe from HF. The spindle can only handle up to 5/8 through the spindle. I'm not really wanting to upgrade to the HF or Grizzly 9x series due to the price involved, because I really need it only to handle larger stock and I'd be OK with the 8" travel.
SO... can the spindle be bored out from 5/8" (.625") to 3/4" (.750")? That means removing 0.0625 from the ID of the spindle. I think it can be done, but I'm not sure what would be the best way to do it.
I would think that maybe using a chuck in the tailstock, I could chuck a reamer and spin it into the spindle, kinda like how a chamber reamer would be used. ???
Is there an easy way to cut this hard metal? Stupid idea?
