Look carefully on the dials to see if there is a symbol like: || = .001 in.
That would indicate that each space on the dial displaces a thousandth of an inch. Ten of them would be one hundredth of an inch.
Those marks usually are very small and hard to read. That's why the DRO's (digital read out) devices are so popular these days. No guess work is needed. When the table or quill moves the read-out tells exactly how much. No guessing and compensation needed for backlash (slop). It's always a good idea to lock the table or quill when that function(s) isn't needed which helps isolate errors.
