Here's a CRAZY idea - bear with me...

Considering that a flat bending jig is usually over-built, what if someone were to make a notched cut on one end, or flip the jig over and cut, so that the trigger guard would be supported?

Does that make sense? You'd have a flip-around jig like the CNC Gunsmithing AR jig, and you'd have one less thing to buy.

OTOH now that I think about it, you could more easily mill into the 'ram' that presses down on the flat and ends up inside the bent flat. Mill a deep notch into it and presto you've got your jig.

Thoughts? Let's use some of that wasted space on our existing jigs!

Yeah let me know. I am at the point with my flat jig that I need to make the ram. I may employ my sheet metal bender in the same was as the "more than one way to skin a flat" thread in the AK BIY forum. That would make my life much easier and let me start bending flats more quickly. Once I do that, my AK building shop will be complete.

I'm back in town finally, but I'm real busy this weekend with other things. Thus, I don't know if I'll even have a chance to get into the shop before Monday. It never ends
