Default Serious question: Welding mask vs cell phone

So I was playing with my other AR flat earlier and I happened to pick my cell phone while I had my mask still down. The cell phone screen made the auto-darkening kick on?? Wtf is the deal with that? If I look directly at my shop lights quickly with the highest sensitivity it will go dark for just a second, but I can hold my phone at an arms distance and it stays dark until I shut the screen off or look away.

Anyone have insight to this? Something special about the type of light the phone is giving off, or is my generation all destined to have glaucoma from undisclosed damaging light rays?

Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes, but there are more good men than evil, and while the latter cannot be persuaded to the path of righteousness by propaganda, they can certainly be corrected by good men with rifles.”

No shit?!?! I'll have to try it with my welding helmet. What brand is yours? I have a cheapie Harbor Freight one, but along with the HF flux core welder, it gets the job done.

    This LOL

I have no idea, the helmet I have is set to be about the same as a #10 or 11 lens, if I look into the sun or the 200w work light it darkens but not by a standard light bulb (60-100w).
