Buy the cheapest, you may get a great buy or may get hosed.

I'd be looking for "best bang for the buck" myself. The recent Bulgarian AK74 kits aren't cheap, but they ARE a great value.
I have a daughter. I tell her, "911 is what you dial after you're raped. 1911 is what you should have before they try."

What makes the AK74 a great value is the 5.45x39 ammo. It's much cheaper than the 7.62x51 ammo the CETME eats. I still think that as a battle rifle, the Pakistani G3's are an excellent value, but to build something nice you are gonna drop some serious coin to build one.

$225 kit + $150 barrel + $160 collapsible stock + $55 trunnion + $169 receiver + compliance parts will put you well over $700 with relatively little fan-fare. You can build the AK74 for a fraction of that... but it will never have the punch of a .308, so it's a trade-off. Of course, the G3 will be worth more at the end of the day too.

I wasn't comparing the AK74 round to the 7.62 NATO, but the value of kits. Cheap can be so, well, CHEAP sometimes.

    Holy misleading statements, Batman!

The $135 kits don't have barrels.

Cetme kits with barrels start @ $324 at the above site.

I challenge you to find them cheaper with a barrel than hasn't been drilled.
