    Thanks Sang.

Yep, that's the Smith Enterprises M14, select fire. I find it controllable, but then I'm a wee bit larger than average.

FAL is a DSA StG-58A. It is a post ban model, they are now coming with the Stoll flash suppressors installed.

My Dad went through basic on the M14 in 1964, he said the F/A fire was a jaw rattler.

I added a "battle rifle" to my family, today. I found an FN FAL R1A1 sporter at the gunshow. It was part of an estate sale. The owner had been a writer for a gun magazine. It looks like it has never been fired. It has a Hesse receiver and was buit by Century Arms. With 2 magazines it was $475. A good deal? Gotta' go shooting this week. There was no box or book. I have to look for takedown instructions.

I appreciate the invite. I'm seriously considering it coming up for the August shoot if it's possible. Don't know if I'd wear the kilt though......something about August heat and wrapping yards of wool around the sensitive bits doesn't seem too apealing................

Strange Destiny......your FAL will probably shoot great.......but the Hesse receivers don't have a good rep. If the rifle does have issues, most of them can be fixed. I don't think you got hurt on the price.

Derek Huffman at Arizona Expert Arms does a Century Arms refurb special for rifles that the Century squirrels couldn't put together correctly.

Since the conversation is on Battle Rifles, could some one tell me what the big differeces are between the METRIC & INCH FALs. I am seeing metric kits for sale, are the metric kits any good?
