    Default FAL info??

A shooting buddies' father wants to get one and they don't know anything about them, and I really don't either.

So other then just saying "go to falfiles".
    What should they look for?
    Any certain brands?
Just some basic info, not looking for a complete buyers guide.

I tried doing a search of "fn fal" & "fal", but it said nothing found? So if the info is on here, what are some good search words to use?

Have you browsed the FAL BIY forum yet?

    http://www.gunco.net/forums/254-fal-biy-forum

There are still some Imbel kits around in the marketplaces from individuals, but all the commercial suppliers are out.

Most were gobbled up last year when they were going for $149 shipped. A lot of folks stocked up, (I bought two, now I wish I had bought more) but be prepared to spend $200-$225 plus shipping for a kit today.

If you want to buy one get a DSA, if you want to build one get an STG58 kit from DSA and a receiver and conpliance parts from them. Personally I think a FAL is the ultamate rifle.

    Sorry but more noob question.

    Difference in "metric" & "inch"?
    The mags are different, right?
    Parts interchangeable?
Doesn't someone make a FAL that uses both style mags?

I've only done a few and really don't know them all that well but:

L1A1 is the inch FAL -- brits, aussies, indian -- will take metric mags but they are loose.
I've treated the parts as non interchangable but I know there's rethreading and there may be parts that swap.

Metric stuff is cheaper and availability is better. That goes for everything mags, kits and receivers.

Are the receivers showing up again?
