For the money the DPMS seems like a good deal. It is very accurate. For all around quality the DS Arms FAL is one of the best but accuracy doesn't match a bolt action and mounting acopes isn't as easy.

All purpose... Hmmm, why not a HK91/G3? Seems like a good all around weapon.

The H&K G3 isn''t bad. The receiver is mild steel. Magazine changes take 4 times as long as the FAL. The G3 tends to be a bit more ammo sensitive. The G3 has awkward balance for carrying. I found out the hard way that the G3 front sight base will snap off if banged against a vehicle or brick wall, etc. The G3 receiver and cocking tube do dent fairly easily. I do like the G3 in full auto as the rate of fire is lower than the FAL and it doesn't suffer from the "bang, bang, click" that can plague the FAL in full auto due to hamonics.

I dunno....I'm kind of partial to my CETME (Model C) for the mid-range action and the Poly Tech M14s for reaching out and touching someone. 'course, nothing really beats a bolt action...
