Default Scout scope on a K98

I recently picked up a Weaver scout scope mount for my K-98 and need advice on removing the original rear sight. It appears the rear sight is hinged on the front with a roll pin and has a screw in back. Does it matter which side the pin is removed from? Left or right? The pin does move when I swing the back of the sight up and down. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hello Doobs,
    Welcome to gunco !!!
The Mauser 98 tangent leaf rear sight is removed by pressing the hinge portion down with a strong thumb(s) and sliding the leaf rearward at the same time. The axis pin is non-removeable !!!! Don't pound on it. A screwdriver may help slide the leaf rearward. AK's dismount like this too.
