    Nice looking rifle

OK is it me or is the leather sling setup overly complicated?
Yes it is but it is designed for multiple uses, check out this video but if you just want to see the sling stuff got to 2:30

And here's one with another style sling

I have a post korean war canvas sling, they work nice most leather sings are repr0's, i don't own or buy repro junk, plus the canvas does not deteriorate. these are also getting hard to find, I bought a spare a few weeks back for $10 I have seen them go for $30-40

one can improve ones shooting just by having a sling regardless of the rifle
I see samco has that Iranian 30'06 ammo if you are having ammo problems
Sprat and sprat1 are one and the same.

Thanks for those links. Looks like this is the leather WW2 version of the tactical sling LOL

Plenty of rounds... picked up 1500 primed brass a few years back so I'm good on ammo

OK so they recommend the "Hatcher's Book of the Garand"... any other must-have resources?

The $999 "special grade" model is what my friend received - new stock, new barrel, etc. so it doesn't have as much "character" as mine does, but it looks brand-spanking-new and has a brand-spanking-new barre. Worth consideration if you simply want a shooter vs. "collectible".
Thanks Pookie. Yeah, I think I'm gonna have to move one of those further up my list.

I got lucky & picked up a 55-57 ish H&R in very good shape for $600.00 with sling several months ago in Orlando! The barrel is in excellant shape, no rust or dark spots! The bore & throat condition is unknown as I do not have the gauges to measure them. The rifle has are original marked parts, so it seems never to be arsenal refinished!

How are the H&A Garands? I missed out on the SA that CMP had, now all there are is H&A. From what I've heard, they are 50s manufacture, so some see them as less collectable since they didn't see combat in WW2. Any opinions on these?

If you are refering to the Harrington Richardsons they have a good report.

I think I convinced my dad to get one of these - he REALLY liked it at the range! Some pics of us shooting over the weekend:
