I just modify the mag to fit the trunion as is. then it is also possable to do a screw build or have room for the rivet. also on aYugo trunion it would be possable to move the lower rear holes by the mag well forward and then the rivet or screw will not hit the mag. The main reason for using G3 mags IMOO is because they do not narrow at the front and will nwork for all fiamiter bullets from .44 down to .223. On oter mags the narrowing in the front prohibits using bigger OD bullets so if you wanted to do say a 358 WIN your out of luck because the fron hits the bullets. for a 243 or 308 a fal or m14 mag is a lot easier way to go as they fit better. in the big picture it dont really matter if themag is $2 or $20 when your building a $500-$1000 custom AK.

I hear ya I actually modified the trunnion to move the mag farther forward I still can do a regular build with it screws or rivets then I modied the test mag to clear the rivets in the mag well its a tight fit but it all clears with a standard length bolt and carrier I love g3 mags weight look and especially price haven't decided how I'll have them lock most likely I'll do a magwell with a g3 catch I need to get back onto that project lol

I have a idea for the Mag latch but Im keeeping it top secret untill I get it done

It will allow me to do a way with actory latch and save the 1/4" or more it takes up in the trigger guard. Im trying to get the 243 done in the next two weeks or deer season or my son.

That's cool I can't wait to see what you come up with, you seem to get very creative when you let a project stew a bit lol

My idea is to spot weld a strip of steel to the magwell rear and have it go back and and rivet in place like the back of a normal tg heck maybe for fun I'll graft a cut off g3 magwell from robert rtg onto my receiver

So what have you come up with for your mag latch bg? I'm curious as you usually have some nice tricks up your sleeve

    back to boldt thrust,
when I find my calipers I post the locking section (bearing surface) of a FAL boldt and locking sholder. I think there is not that mutch diffrence in bearing surface from one to the other.
on a side note if one looks up the PSI on a x39 150g load it is a hair under 50k I think, I dont have my load book (lee) with me. this would be close to .308 PSI in a light load. some ware in gunco there is a 30-30 ak ( cant fing it now) and a 150 grane load would put it in the .308 PSI range. muttman

I just seen this thread. I have a Patterson Machine M76 reciever that I'm going to do a build on this winter. It will be a .308 rifle with a heavy barrel. I plan on using standard
M76 parts kit for this build. I may use a barrel from a 1919 and a Saiga .308 mag.
I seen "turbothis" use a 1919 barrel on a Saiga .308 rifle before.
