Rover, Sorry about hijacking your thread with my build. I just got over zealous from your inspiration. Your rifle is looking great! I think I am going to go for the FPK look on mine. I have moved all my posts concerning my build to another thread. I will be checking in though. I think we need to have a Gunco shoot somewhere in the midwest this year and have an up-close look at some of the fine builds going on.
    Cheers!

    Oh please don't.
I got so much inspiration from some of the stuff I found on this site, I am just glad that someone finds something usefull from what I am building.

My Saiga .308 rifle uses a standard length AK-74 type bolt. I don't see any need to lengthen the bolt for your conversion.

You may need to use a modified hammer that clears the crossbrace, however.

I modded the AK bolt carrier. Removed the AK gas piston and the front half off the carrier.
Put a bushing in the nose of the carrier and installed the FAL gas piston. Pinned it.
I modified the rear end of the receiver to match the stock lines.
The receiver is made from a piece of rectangle tube and its 3" longer then stock. I lengthened the amount of pull by doing this. The rifle shoulders very well.
I still need to take two receiver covers and make them into one longer one.
    And then install the FCG.

I am still tossing around the idea of using a stock FAL gas block with the front sight, loose the AK sight, and then shorten the barrel so its 16.25" with the flash suppressor.
    aloharover,
could you expand on the 3" longer reciver? did the fal mag need that extra space ?

funny i was brainstorming an idea like this just yesterday, because i cant find a reasonable psl or dragunov kit anywhere. i pulled my fal kit out and mocked it up with a bent ak flat and a psl stock and it would be easier to feed in 308 as i have a fal and a g3 already

    Not really
I got the FCG installed and did a test fire. It shot, extracted, and fed. Its a shot out FAL barrel and patterned like a shotgun.

Since starting this thread I went ahead and got my FFL-07 and SOT.
I have been pretty busy building ARs, FALs, and 'regular' AKs to get back to this project.

One thing I did discover is that the FAL mags I purchased were not FAL mags but instead FN49 mags.
I have been doing a lot of Saiga conversions so will be using the surefire 25rd 308 saiga mags on this rifle.

I lengthened the receiver so much to fit me. majority of the length is behind the pistol grip.

When I have time I want to get a 308 barrel blank and turn it to fit.
