    Question romainian 7,62 to 5.56

Ok folks I figure this one has already been talked to death but I cant seem to find any info on it.I'm planning on using a 23mm 5.56 bbl from k-var on a romainian "g" kit.I'm not worried about being able to install the bbl attachments(fsb,gas-block etc),but instead the feeding issues that I'm sure to incounter. Do I need a 5.56 trunnion? I know the bolt head will have to be different and the carrier also, but is there away to convert the parts from the parts kit to work?Any help would be greatly appreciated and I am not afraid of work as I have more time than money. I dont want the budget from this to exheed the cost of a decent 5.56 new ak. Another option would be a parts kit in 5.56. Anyone know where I could find one of these?

More questions-can you use bulgarian 5,45 carrier w/bulgarian 5.56 bolt? Can you use bulg. 5.56 bolt w/romainian 5,45 trunnion? K-var is out of stock on bulg. 5.56 trunnions.

    Bulgy 5.56 bolts use a 7.62 carrier.
The carrier has to have a cut made into it to clear the mag
5.56 trunions are inbound and should be here in a week or so (per kvar)

I hate to break it to you... you will exceed the cost of a new 5.56 ak.
DPHARMS has SAM 5 for $675.
You can't build one for cheaper, well.. there is another route.
Go find a saiga 223 and convert it. That is what I would do

DITTO! I love my Saiga 223 conversion - I "completely" changed it and arguably that is as much work as you are talking.

After looking at k-var this is what I have come up with:bbl-95.00,bolt head-60.00, 5.56 carrier-50.00, 5.56 trunnion-75.00?, 5.56 bullet guide-13.00=293.00+180.00(what I have invested in built romy rifle)=473.00+ cost of mag? If I can use romy carrier minus 50.00=423.00. Of course the trunnion is the wild card-DrugRunR,did you get a price on the trunn. from k-var? What is the price of 5.56 mags and where can I get them? And I plan on using bbl parts from romy bbl-although I figure they will have to be fitted because of diff. in journal sizes on the 2 diff. bbls.I know a guy who will turn the journals for me if needed.I think I'm gonna go for it.PLEASE tell me if I'm missing some thing thats gonna bite me in the ass.Thanks.

285 for a Saiga, $12.99 for a bullet guide, $41.99 US BUTT STOCK, $19.99 PISTOL GRIP Made in US, a little dremmel time some K-Var mags for about 25 per, and you have a 1st class .223 AK, I have a sidefolder Polymer stock on mine with the 74 muzzle break and all the rest of the 74 goodies. Dead ringer for the AK-103

ak's of any kind are scarce around here and the only saiga I've ever seen was a 308 cal. at the local gun show(if you could call it a gun show). Now if I could find one in 223 I would get it but I am limited as to my options. Also this way I dont have to buy every thing at once.I can order the parts as needed and can afford. Also when I do find any ak It is priced so absurdly high that its not worth a third of what they are asking. But I do greatly appreciate your advice and will keep my eyes open for one.Thanks.

Sweet! If I can get a ffl holder around here to order it for me without arse rapeing me I'll be in business. I need to find an individual cause the local gunshops like to stick it to you on so called "assault weapons". i.e. 2 years ago they wanted something like 450-475 for wasr-10 low cap.I tried to tell them I know what wholesale is on them. They would say something like "At tares a ak-47, its one them thare war guns, caint gettum vary easy, gotta charge whut thays wurth,if you dont like it,tough. and iffin you aint gonna buy sumpin, then go on outta hare so's I can wait on tha payin' cusomers. I appreciate the links,Steelcore.I'll see what I can do.
