I have built a few aks and have thought about a 9mm or 45acp ak. I would like to know how involved a build is. I have access to a press and a mig welder and have used them on the aks. I guess what concerns me is the lathe work for the barrel. Can i still do this with my level of tools or could someone help me. I live in south tx.
how about using a Sten magwell?? Seen any builds with those?
I have'nt seen any but was thinking the same thing. The main thing to check first is how the top of the mag reacts with the bolt, if it seems like both will work together then it can be done. I've seen STEN mag wells for sale from $15-25 and I don't think it would be to hard to adapt the well to the receiver.
The feed lug on an AK bolt will need to be narrowed in order to work with Sten magazines.
Might work. I have Sten Mk III magwell and AK-74 Receiver in my hand. You will have to permanently open up the AK-74 magwell to fit the sten magwell inside of the receiver.Originally Posted by smittylite
However, there is barely any clearance for the Mk III mag release unless you can mill out the mag release recess.
I am doing a 9mm convert right now and it is no big thing once you get a bushing made 4 your barrel it is all down hill.
I am also building a AK9mm, I am just about ready to start thinking of the barrel. What barrel did you use?Originally Posted by leatherzombie
I've got all the parts but haven't started. I've got the lictenburg suomi magwell, uzi barrel, sleeve for barrel, sleeve for bolt face, and a couple suomi drums.
Are you using a 16" UZI barrel? If so where did you get it?
