    Default Grendel Reamer for $90?

Is this "full length sizing die reamer" suitable for a chamber?

Jerry -- Why would they not call it a chamber reamer, if that was a function?

    I'd definitely ask midway

It's for reaming a brass cartridge case resizing die, it's not the right dimension for a chamber.

Yep, it will be undersized for a chamber.

Winn, the reason I ask is that the company that makes Grendel wants to corner the market so they don't "allow" reamers to be made or sold without some special "no compete" licensing agreement. A really stupid business practice to be sure, but I know a few people here that are interested in it.

SO... since it is "too tight" for a normal chamber, it would be OK for a fireforming chamber, no?

If you could somehow chamber standard-sized pre-6.5 Grendel brass in a chamber cut with the die reamer, the fire-formed brass you'd get out would be undersized with respect to regular 6.5 Grendel sizing dies.

You'd create, in essence, a 6.5 Grendel "junior" cartridge, smaller than the real one and a brand-new wildcat.

    Rent the reamer.

I think I read that those reamers are match tolerance. I don't know if that would work for semi-auto. Maybe if you polished the chamber real well?

All the reamer I have seen are match /tight reamers made to the minim specs for bolt action builds. I am not sure but they may even require neck turning of the brass. Alaxnder arms maintains that there design is different in respect to the free bore. how ever they will not give any specific details. These guys didnt invent the wheel here. it should not be that hard to figure out what they going on. that die cutting reamer might make a good roughing reamer not sure a reamer to make a die does not need to cut the free bore or any thing were the bullet rides in the chamber. If I had any spare money to spend I would do a build with a match reamer and see what it would take to make it shoot. My 223 varmit build has a very close to match chamber (no neck turing required0 and it cycles pretty well it will fail to extract the steel wolf crap once in a while when things get to get dirty. I suspect that the avaliable reamer would work in a perfectly clean barrel but not be as reliable in dirty weapon in combat stuations. I have wonderd if one could not polish it slightly over size as well and the open the neck area with a approite neck reamer.

Personaly I see very little reason to do a AK 6.5 grendal build when the AK can be made to handel the longer 308 family of cartridges. A 243, 260, 7mm-08 will all out perform the grendal in some area and they can be bought and or reloaded for the same money as the grendal or less. now if WOLF or some one else came out with $4.00 a box grendal ammo then that change my mind.
