    Default SVU range video

VERY short vid, VERY low quality to keep the download as small as possible.

NOTE: I used the DIVX encoder so you may have to download the playback codec at divx.com if you don't already have it. They are AVI files.

1st vid is about 250k and the 2nd vid is about 1.4MB

Edit - relocated my vids to my Skydrive account. I'll soon put up better quality vids and some more items:

This was "the" chrono test of my reloads using Hornady's starting load of 34 grains of H4895 with Nosler accutip 168gr bullets. Using Winchester and Remington brass, all velocities hit right around the 2000-2100 mark. This is exactly what the book says, and if the Nosler data is to be trusted, this lower velocity is more accurate than the right side of the chart. As far as I'm concerned, it is "dialed in"!

Please remember she's left eye dominant, and was fighting hard to get the sight picture.
Thanks to the shim, the scope is now dead-on at 50 yards, but I didn't have enough ammo loaded to sight in at 100.

My extra magazines work great! I've been able to test about 7 of them so far, but I've only had good luck with them so far. I am going to test all of them before I put them in my "ready" pile.

Now its time to go reload the rest of my ammo!

What a great smile at the end of the second video!! That is a really cool build!! Now that you've built hers you're probably going to want to build one for yourself.

Ah you guys are so funny! She's not getting this one - the P90 has already been claimed, but not this one I may actually build her a left-hand AK. She doesn't like holding rifles left-handed, but she's starting to appreciate how it could help her shooting. So we'll see. As much as she likes this one, I may very well build another one of these. For HER shooting, I probably would not convert to .308.

I loaded up 60 more rounds last night, so I may sight in the scope today. Really the only thing I need to do is to redo the flip-up sights to make them more sturdy, and add the tritium inserts I found online to make them glow

    Then its paint time!

I'm behind on my website updates, I really need to get some more pics of it up there.

was thinking of a left hand AK varmit build (at least lh charging handel and selector) I want to be able to load and unload while lying on the ground using a bipod. that way I can keep my hand on the pistol grip and my eye on the target and still cycle the action with out upseting everything.

I don't mean to hijack my own thread, but I think a left-hand AK isn't that far-fetched of an idea.

All you really need is to cut & weld the charging handle to the left side, dremel out the top cover, cut the ejector notch on the bolt, cut a hole in the bolt for the left hand extractor, cut the barrel for the left-hand extractor, and cut the rails. That's really it!

I've thought about the ejector notch enought that I am pretty sure you do NOT need a slit saw cutter, but a dremel cut-off wheel would do the trick. I really think it would. The original ejector notch could stay as-is, and you'd be OK.

The trick would be the extractor. You would probably need to go a bit on the small side in comparison to the original. Then again, perhaps the ejector is shaped enough that it would work with the original? It would be worth a try before making those cuts just to see how it would behave. Assuming you'd need the left-side extractor, you could probably plug the original hole with a bolt and silver solder it into place. It would probably be best to temper the bolt since that much heat would anneal it, possibly leading to an unsafe condition. I suppose you could tap and thread a bolt into it, then cut it smooth. That would save the heat treating on the bolt, and would be reversible...

I don't see any down sides to putting the safety on the other side, and it could be engineered with the existing holes if you really think about it. It would be like a Galil safety.

The right-side hole in the top cover could be silver soldered with the cut off section of the left side, or some thick sheet metal, or simply left as-is, if you don't mind the extra smoke.

But that's a project for another day.

    Looks like it runs great!

Watch out about letting your other half shoot your stuff. Mine claimed my 1911 Colt Commander as hers this weekend, but she didn't like the AK...yet.

Where'd you get an SVU, it seems SVDs are rare enough!

EDIT: Oh, it seems it is homemade, good job!
