Default 45 ACP / 45 WM Barrel Options?

Hey VZ or anyone else - I'm almost ready for the barrel and wonder about this one:

MidwayUSA - Douglas Premium Pistol Barrel Blank 45 Caliber Centerfire Medium Basic 1.200" Diameter Rough Turned 1 in 16" Twist 27-1/2" Chrome Moly in the White

It is $150 and 27" long... currently backordered

Any other good deals on 45 barrels?

Numrich has some pistol-sized barrels but not much else... I am going to build mine at about 14-16" and with a muzzle brake, it should be just about right. Problem is that I'm only finding pistol-sized barrels. That 27" barrel is obviously going to make a nice 16" barrel, then what do I do with the other half? Make a matching pistol?

I'd like to find even a 12" barrel... I can live with a 4" muzzle brake.

Good call! I didn't think about tommy gun stuff at Numrich. I got turned off when the only ones I saw were going for over $200:

    Tommy Gun Shop / Accessories

TommyGunner.com - Thompson Tommy Gun Parts for sale

I actually found one at Numrich for $100:

    Thompson Semi-Auto 16 1/2" .45 ACP Barrels?|?e-GunParts.com

and one for a little bit more:

    Reising 50 .45 ACP Barrel?|?e-GunParts.com

That 16" Semi-only Tommy barrel should do the trick. I'm going to shape it to size anyway so I'm not worried about the fins. I'm really interested to see what kind of muzzle velocity I'll get out of a 16" barrel, since all the measurements I've seen were clocked on a standard pistol-sized barrel of around 5".

Do you have a reamer? I'm debating on renting one or making one. I don't have measurements - yet - for a reamer so I'm leaning toward renting at this point.

Nope, that one has a 1:20 barrel twist. .45 ACP is 1:16 twist. They do have an interesting .45-70 barrel, however, so I may just have to give them a call. The .45 ACP and WM are both .451" diameter. The .45 Colt is the "cowboy" colt round, and it too is .451" (on the grooves).

That slow twist would work only for the lighter bullets. Say, up to about 200 grains. Standard ACP bullets are 230-240 grains, and the WM loads in the Hornady manual can go up to 300 grains.

not 100% sure that Rineland makes a barrel for converting k98 to use .45acp I think they make parts for 10-22 and there brand of .22 . there is diffrent Co. that makes a conversion barrel but there name is lost to me now. the mec-tec would be high $$$.
