    Default 45 WinMag update

    GETTING CLOSE!

    Down to these items:
    • trigger guard
    • trigger (the entire bullpup linkage is in place and working)
    • trigger housing retainer pin
    • firing pin spring retainer
    • magazine feed lips (and more mags!)
    That's it!

Here's the final design for the follower. I gave up trying to cobble the G3 follower, and instead I chose to imitate an AR-15 follower... it hand-feeds INFINITELY better!!!

Nice job! Going to make one badass little bullpup.....though my immediate thought was to lose the front grip, shorten the barrel, and use the mag as the pistol grip...would make a cool pistol too.

pookie - it's looking good. Any pics or tips for the bullpup linkage?

pjm - if pookie loses the front grip it would be awkward to use since the trigger will be in front of the grip.

Nice, you did make the groza in a different caliber. Now you need a LAR grizzly to go with it!

Where'd you get the barrel blank?

    Outstanding pookie.

I shot mine with some buddies a couple of weeks ago. The grins on their faces... Wait till you see what it does to melons, squirrels and 2 liter soft drinks!

I have to load up some more and am going to try the barnes all coppers next.

the XTP hornady 185 grainers fragment in a freaking pumpkin, probably too much velocity for the pistol bullet design.

I am having feed problems I think from my follower...

    yours is just SEXY

Yeah that follower I started with - the G3 mag follower cut down - was giving me fits. I just tried to follow the AR follower design and that's what I came up with. Started as 1"x2" block of aluminum from speedy metals. I have enough to make 10-12 I think.

I don't want to do the followers yet until I get that feed lip figured out precisely. I think in making my feed lips I must have bent the sides of the magazine inward JUST ENOUGH at the top to make it hang and drag. So I'm going to chop off 2" of the top and do it again

I forgot to add that I am going to fashion the buttstock so that one of my rubber buttstock pads will fit over it.

Also I'm going to make a Groza-style carry handle/iron sight/scope mount once I confirm this gas block will work. THe bad thing is that the gas block may NOT work and I will need to do it over. It isn't as pretty as factory and I wish it were.

How big did you finally make your gas port? Still pondering if mine is big enough or not...

I will have to measure but IIRC .125 was WAY too big, I have to vent almost all of the gas

I used a .100" bit IIRC, well below what I expected it would need. That's good to know, at least I may be on the right track. I'm also not convinced my short piston design is very efficient, as I think it will bleed more gas than I wish. I designed it around the M92 Yugo with a straight gas tube and larger rings on the piston. I suppose we'll see how it works.
