I remembered turbothis' .303 conversion on theakforum:

The AK Forum :: Log in

He spliced a longer extension into a pair of milled stubs, extended the bolt carrier and bolt, and a few other mods.

rahat did an 8mm Mauser using a Coldsteel flat and modified AK bolt and carrier:

    Romy RPK to 7.92 x 57mm - Militaryfirearm

    Another 8mm thread here:

Coldsteelsolutionsincorporated.com has PSL flats with the side stiffening plates for $50.

Huh, that thing's receiver looks like a galil one, or maybe a valmet. it has the "bend" in it.

It looks like a Chinese Hunter to me. The Chinese Hunter model is a copy of the Valmet Hunter but chambered in 7.62x39. The Galil receiver isn't cut at angle in the rear but the Valmet Hunter is.

Here's a link with the Chinese Hunter.

Hm. The Saiga and Valmet were both made in .30-06 with a standard-length receiver. I found an article with pictures of the Saiga, showing how they'd moved the center support back to get extra room.

    .30-06 overall length: 3.34"
    7.62x54R: 3.04"

If an '06 can be porta-powered into a standard-length receiver, I don't see why a 54R can't... I think I need to buy some 54R ammo and do some eyeballing.

CFS still have that Romy x54r listed at $449.
