Smile AK TOK completed: first pix

hey guys got the TOK AK built and test fired today..

it has Johnny 5.56 US wood
    tapco FCG
    COpes Bugly kit
    barrel turned by a friend...

    total cost: $375

still need to do the final finish coat on it and its a bit tight so gonna loosen it up just a hair and let it work in the rest of the way.

heres the temporary pic until the video and good pic after finishing.

as mentioned this one is blowback and runs on pps43 mags with NO ALTERATION TO THE MAGS.. so they fit in this & my pps43 & my TOK AR and can interchange with no trouble.

yes ive got a mini tutorial over at WG on this but if you got any questions have at it.

was asked for a pic form the bottom and with mag in so here they are...

    Jack,

not on this one.. its just a standard NODAK 74 reciever. nothing fancy.

bent plenty back in the beginning with 555th's jigs back when we did "bend party's" all the time, its just not worth the time or hassle to drag out the press for one(space is limited here), would rather have my welder, grinder, belt sander & drill press out.

now if this was a MILLED or slab build? yeah that would be a fun way to go! maybe on the gas op version could try that!

    RR,

yeah im one of those guys who does hand cycling a million times before i go "live" so knew the feed and eject were good... ignition is never a problem with AK set ups either.. so it was all about the live fire end of it.

only got about 10 rounds in the cold and snow/wind. no problems..

BUT: its TIGHT! not headspace wise. action wise. got too much drag going into battery and im gonna go back tonite and polish up & see if that does the trick & gains me some cycle speed.

How did you work the angle between the top cartridge in the mag and the bolt?

    Looks great!

    Winn,

did a bunch of "looking" before i started and once my decision was made to use the 43 mag and the stock bolt it was all about just getting the height for the pickup correct and its just a perfect fit in the bolt head...

now how does it get "in there"?

left the entire bolt face unchanged so it has a big lip down there which grabs from either side of the mag real good and sends it towards the pipe.

one thing you'll notice in my build from the upside down pic is that i put the mag FORWARD against the trunny instead of back at the mag release.... that way the feed was short and it didnt have near as much room to get out of line.

as the bolt shoves the round into the chamber and it bottoms out the extractor snaps right over the round and your good to go...

other things that help in this?

did have to file the factory ramp on the trunny down a good bit so that its almost flat as the mag is high enough on its own.

barrel position was key on this blowback set up... you want the barrel far enough towards the gun that the bolt carrier stops against the trunny and not the bolt FACE on the barrel... but not too far so that you crush the case or smash the extractor in... to me this was the most important spacing in the build.

hope to get the video made this next weekend.
