SO THE 357 MAX IS A FACTRY MADE BRASS ROUND??? IS THE 357 MAK PISTOL PRIMER ?? I SEE THE POCET IS MUCH DEEPER. 223 THICKER IN THE BASE.
I REALLY NEED TO LOOK INTO ONE OF THESE. GOOD TO KNOW 357 DIES MIGHT WORK AT LEAST THE LEES.
WHAT REAMER DO YOU USE AN DO YOU OWN IT?????
IS THAT 357 MAX ROUND NECK TURNED OR NECK REAMED?? I SEE WHAT LOOKS LIKE A SMALL SHOULDER. OR IS THAT FROM FORMING IT OR FROM FIRING IT???
I REALLY WANT TO DO A CUSTOM TOKEREV T33 OR M57 WITH A CUSTOM LONG BARREL IN A 9MM MAGNUM TYPE ROUND. WAS THINKING OF HUNTING WITH IT. IF A 357 IS USED THEN THERE IS NO REASON A 357 MAX OR 9X23 OR SIMULAR WONT.
IF i CAN USE THE 1500 ROUNDS OF FIRED A LOT BRASS OUT OF MY VSARMIT RIFLE AS DISPOSABLE CSSES THEN ALL THE BETTER.
1Biggun, the pic above is a wildcat with .338 bullets that was brought up in my 357AR build/design thread on weapons guild. The 357 max uses small rifle primers as does my 357AR. I had hoped on going with 357 Maximum brass (which only remington makes every so often) The 357 Max cases only need the rim turned off to work, until you factor in the case web. I didn't know if it was a toss up with the thicker case head and thinner web, v/s the 223, but I figured the 223 case was built for much higher pressures than a 357 max case was....So thats what I went with. I have a bunch of 357 max cases, but I'll just use them for a single shot build or something. The 357AR is really just a 357 Maximum that is rimless and loaded to higher pressure. Since it's a semi there is a few thousands more body taper in the chamber, but thats about it.
I made one 357AR reamer for .347"/.357" barrels and another one for .350"/.358" barrels. I also had a reamer made with a floating pilot, and pilots for both barrels. Most of the 9mm and 38/357 barrel blanks have the same land and goove diameters and are sort of generic barrels with different twist rates.
I turned the necks on the formed cases as the case shoulders vary in thickness and depending on the case forming process you can end up with different neck thicknesses. I'm thinking about changing over to reaming as I believe it might be faster.
I had hoped to take it deer hunting this year, but it's not looking like I'll get to go this year.
wow you have really put some work into this.
I saw while looking in to this today that a few guys have taken 357 handi rifles an chambered them to 357 max. that would be a good way to find a use for your brass cheap an fun . I like those guns wish they made a pistol.
ill have to look you up for a chamber if I ever get any were on this. But Im digging the using 223 brass for some thing. im aftad to geep reloading it in my 223. a few split necks an id hate to rupture a case or get one stuck on a anual prairie dog trip 700 miles from home. I was thinging of making 7.62x25 out of it but the ammo is stll reeasonable surpluss ( duble from three years ago) Im likeing a 9mm deal better.
I was thinking I might be able to take my 6mm bench reamer when I get it an piolet it for a 9mm or 357, 358 bore an make a 357 bench rest chamber an then just neck an throat it. that would give you a lot more power tha a 223 case an culd use 308 win cut down or 6mmbr lupia bras blow out. there wil be a 30 br for sure if i can get the 6mm shooting an feeding.; that would give a real better than 30-30 win round on the platform. ont thing at a time. I got so many dies reamers, brass, barrels an stuff coming in these days I cant keep it straight my living room looks like a Iraq weapons factory on crack.
I have thought of a handi rifle and I may end up getting one. Here's a site with some hot 357 max loads. 357 Remington Maximum Loading Data The 357 max has been limited in pressure because of the revolvers chambered for it aren't strong enough for 60kpsi. I know yo have a lathe, but do you have a mill?
