I hope you mean for a dummy, or a build w/ a smaller id receiver. Otherwise you may have a really really bad day

Tig if you can or have access..
Mig with a welder no smaller than a Linclon 120 or a Hobart handler (old style) 120, you will have a 30% duty cycle, push the weld, hope this helps
Do not weld with a arc welder unless you are very good

for what it's worth, when i made my dummy i used a cheap hobby oxy welder,(Benzomatic) and it came out great.
then i tried one with the 110 portable & i must've had it on the wrong setting but it melted the crap out of the housing!

Arc welders are plenty strong enough for a live gun. I built 5 or 6 FA stens for my father, at the time he was an FFL/SOT holder. All of them were sold to Sheriff deputies who have put thousands of rounds through them w/out any problems. That was about 7 years ago.

NO one said stick wasn't strong enough , you have to be good, I have been welding for over 28 years anything that sticks metal together will work, but for a complete heat through I would recommend tig, then mig (with c25 sheilding gas), then gas (oxy), then stick, then hot glue hehe "JK" try cutting out mig holes and fill them for the trunion where it meets the tube, just my .02
