Jimmy I was hiking the mountain years ago and leaned against a tree to take a break. Looked down after a minute and there was a coiled up copperhead just looking at me. After I set the world record for a backward jump I wished the snake a very nice day and found my own tree.

we don't see that many rattlers or copper heads -- i think they may be going the way of the do-do bird.

a couple decades back this area was eat up with copperheads--

427, come on down here to the 26th parallel. We've got copperhead and diamondback rattlers, cottomouth/water moccasins and last but not least, my favorite, the coral snake, that will keep you busy all day long.
So as the crackers down here say, 'c'mon down and get ya some'.

As the cottonmouth/water moccasin gets older it grows darker and loses its markings. I once had one chase me back to my car and chase the car for 100' as I backed away. Never saw such aggressive behavior in any snake.
