I have drilled over 50 of the wedges and there are 2 types, ones that have a small diameter at the base and some that are larger. the larger ones are glass hard all the way through and can be a bitch to drill. however with a sharp carbide bit, some tap magic and a little patience they will drill.

As for chinese drill bits they are made from old noodles, spend a few extra bucks and get some good US made ones, take care of them, use cutting fluid and they will last a long time. cheap cutting tools are for wood and plastic.

Lucky me it sounds like I got the glass-hard large ones. At least it is over.

I agree on the old noodles - I got these figuring they would last at least as long as my HSS set, but alas I was mistaken. They have actually worn out faster than my HSS set. I have sacrificed literally half of this HF TiN set on my MG42 build. Yet another reason not to shop HF!

HF drills are the worst!! not only are they soft, but they are not sharp. I had a set and they wouldn'd drill crs with out being sharpened first.

well as luck would have it the week I say that all the keys I have drilled have been surface hardened I get one of the glass hard ones as mentioned by pirate in the mail in a bolt for semi conversion. hard one on the left. Not sure if this is an early or late key, i have had yugo and waffen marked keys but all to date have looked like the one on the right and only been surface hard. I think I will start punching all these with the sinker edm.
