Default New Idea for a Semi-auto Beltfed Rifle

After seeing some M249 bolt assemblies, I noticed how close in size the bolt lugs are to an AK.

I think it is possible to use a M249 bolt assembly and feed assembly combined with various AK parts to make a "shadow" PKM beltfed rifle in 5.56MM caliber. Perhaps even in 5.45MM caliber. Keeping in mind that the PKM is pretty much an unside down AK.

Of course, you will have to use a blank AK receiver because the guide rails will have to be closer together.

    What do y'all think?

I think a belt fed AK would be real cool.

I grabbed a couple of 249 bolts and top covers this weekend for some sort of oddball beltfed project, glad to see other folks think similarly

It seems like a do-able idea to me. Turn the the AK bolt assembly and the barrel upside down, then modify the bolt carrier to work with the M249 bolt assembly.

Of course, the barrel assembly, and etc., will have to fit deep into the receiver, so the bolt will ride at the proper height for working the belt feed cover assembly.

Sure, it will take a lot of fitting and testing, but it will be worth it in the end.

I'm waiting for someone will brains and skill to give it a try. Then I will learn from them.
