I hooked up with a guy at knob creek from the mg42 board and saw his semi auto vickers he built. He gave me some conversion parts in exchange for some semi auto mg42 parts. I really didn't want to get another project, but I decided to order a vickers kit. It came today in a box oozing grease, I didn't even want to open it, but I did. There was more grease in the box than parts. I set up my my degreaser pot and threw in the parts. after cleaning the grease off and having a closer look at what I bought I fell in love with this thing!
It is an overly complicated diabolical pile of finely machined parts, even more complex than an mg34. Closer inspection revealed that the oroginal finish was intact and except for a bent side plate and bottom cover it looked great. The paint on the water jacket looks perfect. I still need to clean it and the barrel.
I plan on making this more of a restoration project than a straight build, I want to save all the origonal finish where possible, only refinishing the side plates. It is going to be a lot of work, but in the end it will be a really nice gun.
