Default Scratch built MG 42/53 receiver???

Has anyone ever cobbled together a working franken rifle from these kits? I have one excellent kit and may pick up another for $199.00. But no way will I spend $900.00 on BRP Half shells or any other super expensive over priced options out there right now. So I wondered if there non original looking but working possibilities ?? I think it's ridiculous to pay hundreds of dollars for sheet metal stampings that look like they should cost $ 15.00.

1st off where are you going to buy a $199. kit at the present time.
2nd go to MG42 website. someone there made an MG42 receiver from scratch using everyday tools.

you are talking about a complex gun, not an ak, the sheet metal is is expensive becaue it is complex and precise.

I just looked at Cold Steel Solutions today & see they are taking orders for their full length receiver shells for $300.00 each.

Would you please order one & do a review??? PLEASE!!

there is a guy on the 42 site doing a build with one. if you are going to do a 42 you need to go there. I have a build tutorial there and there is a lot of usefull info for doing a build.
Doing one of these from parts is a lot of work, I did mine from a 3 cut receiver which was a lot easier.

I am also working on a spade grip setup for the 42.

Thanks Pirate I'll give in & sign up over there. I'm mostly trying to decide whether to buy any more of these kits. I'm very patient with this stuff & it does not bother me at all to spread a project over several years one small step at a time.
They just seem like a lot of kit for the money when a barrel costs almost as much as the whole kit. Even if I can't ever build one ,I imagine I could get my money back ina few years?

I finished mine about two months ago. It is off being parked. I have $200 for the kit, $170 for the cam section and $120 for the cut IMA receiver (which you can not get anymore), $180 for a Wiselite grip, $100 for a barrel bushing and $140 for pirates bolt.

If you have time, watch for the deals on the parts (weaponeer). All the info you need is at www.mg34.us

    They are a fun build.

there are so many 42 kits out there waiting to get built, maybe at some point prices will drop enough to make the receivers a little more reasonable to build. otherwise, you're going to have to brush up on your welding skills
