With your talents & skills, you should duplicate that one & sell it.

Any news on this Pirate? Anybody besides Ammunition store have kits? I should have bought one when they came with all the goodies. I see Apex has beltloaders.
What caliber are the Romanian PKM's ? Could a homebuilder fab one of those receivers?
    Thanks for any info.

None that I'm aware of - have you looked at Century yet? Possibly some there...

I load the belts by hand - they are really easy to load!

    All PK guns are 7.62x54r

I was going to bend my own, but then Pirate put them up for sale and I picked one up:

These are ABSOLUTELY doable for a home builder. They are a big AK on the inside that is turned upside-down.

Fabrication and/or modification of the semi parts will be the kicker on these. Even the firing pin needs to be modified! I think the most common semi trigger group arrangement will resemble an M60 build with a striker assembly. I am personally trying something a little different, because I don't want to have to drill into the buttstock.

If you're going to do one, you can pick up the shell, get some bar stock, clamp it in the vise, and hammer down the top rails. Then get some square tubing for the inner rails. The front trunion rivets are just like an AK, only larger. Thus you will need to get some larger rivets, and no I don't know the size yet. I have a lathe so I may just fab some of my own

The rear stock tang rivet holes can be located by use of the top cover since it locks into the stock tang sort of like an AK. On mine you can clearly see the chafe mark in the paint where it goes.

Another big deal is going to be the "dimple" on the bottom which is for the internal belt feeding pawl. It needs to be opened up and I'm not sure how best to make that happen. I may try pressing it like a big dimple, but I really don't want to build the jig (call me lazy !!!!!)... if you look at the pics of the real thing, the real dimple is different enough to make me think that a dimple jig will do the trick.

I think PBB has already built his semi and is waiting for ATF approval, but I haven't heard anything about his build in some time. I figure he's probably waiting until the ATF comes back, just to be sure...

I have been loking at my kit and receiver to get started on it after I finish my vickers.
The first step will be to bolt up the receiver and cut the slide to fit over the blocking bar in the receiver. Once I do that I will figure out what needs to be done and the best way to do it.
I plan on getting some new receiver parts made, but need to finish some other projects in progress before I start on them.

If your on file with Century they got them on sale until July 31st, $1K, it looks like they come with the bipod & tripod.
