Default converting an h&K to belt fed

i have been searching and cant find any info on converting an h&k to belt fed. does anyone know much about this?

and also what is involved in shortining the barrel on one.

i thought about buying a 33 kit and shortining it and making it belt fed.

The reason you can't find any info is because it's really expensive to go to HK beltfed ($1k just for the parts, if not more especially for the 5.56 parts), and there's really only about a dozen or so people in the US that really know how to do it. If you don't get it right you'll fuck it up and end up with a pile of parts.

My advise is buy one already made by a reputable gunsmith. Don't try this one on your own it's not worth it and your build (should you ever finish it) won't be worth anything.

    Did H&K ever make a belt-fed 5.56 model 33 ???
Does P.O.F. have the needed parts ???

well i guess the 53 is just a short barrel version of the 33. i have seen belt fed 53's and the kits for a 33 are kinda affordable. so i thought about making a 53 (just shorten the 33) but i really want something belt fed (but kinda cheap if there is such a thing as a cheap belt fed).

see i figure if i start out building a 53 (sbr stamp an all) i could look into the belt fed option and maybe do the next one as a belt fed.

i just cant find any info at all. no diagrams, parts etc or anything.

Good luck on that project. IF you can find parts, you may not be able to afford them. IF you can afford them, you'll most likely have to fabricate at least some of the parts on your own, including replaceable barrels.

At the end of the day you'll still have a kit build that won't have any value in the HK world, so you'll never be able to get your money out of it since it won't have been built from enchanted black forest steel by teutonic gnomes.

If you just want to build a belt fed hk cheaply, look at the belt fed ak builds, perhaps they could be of some use.

didnt know there were belt fed ak's. got any links?

and i wouldnt care if it had no real value. i just want a belt fed anything (preferably in .223)

the only info i can find is on rebuilding stuff that is already belt fed. like 1919 kits etc.

    HK23E

The beltfed HK in 5.56 is called the HK23E, a 5.56 version of their HK21E SAW. AFAIK, the only beltfed HKs other than these factory models were the Fleming built HK51s that were belt fed using 21E feed systems. The 21E could be converted to the 11E designation that took box magazines, the feed system was sorta modular and could be swapped back and forth on the same receiver. This meant you could at least theoretically find the feed system for sale minus the rest of the gun. The HK23E/HK73 variant may be similar? If not, you're looking at buying an HK23E kit just to rob it of parts.
