    Smile Turning a 5.56 into a 7.62x39

I have a M4 style ar-15 and was wanting to know what all intelled in making this rifle shoot the larger 7.62 round.
With the 9mm you have to buy a new hammer and adjust the lower receiver is it the same for the larger converstion?

Are the any problems with this converstion?

before i came to gunco, i spent a year or so diligently discussing that "larger bullet" with returning vets. we discussed 'reliability'. utility. accuracy. speed.

those old american colts, vs. (they blushed) - that AK-47.

to save american face, they added, "but be sure to get the milled receiver ..."
"arsenal, in Las Vegas" is american made.

i ended up buying a CIA AMD-65, stamped. and then very soon i came here.

now there is a thread going about 'accurizing an AK', and i sure would like
to build a few supersnipers out of my kits, maybe in a 7.62 x 51 or 54mm,
but folks like Tanvil and the many knowledgable posters here have made it clear that there is a better way and platform for that type of shooting. and i'm not talking ar's,
    either.

zarcher, what ever you want to do with rifles, AR's or our friend, the AK, the folks on this list will be able to take you there, and beyond.

    good luck, indeed!

Zarcher, is the new upper in your other post (16'' A3) the one you're thinking of swapping out?

Yeah, I'm not going to be swaping it now the deal os done and I'm happy for NOW as with anything dealing with firearms.

I just ordered a bsa red dot for this rifle until I can afford a aimpoint com or eotech. $400 isn't easy to come up with when you just dropped 750 plus ammo for this rifle.

So I won't have to do any thing different to my receiver?

Nope, the upper and lower receivers are the same for the 762x39 and 223. The only differences are the larger face on the bolt, the barrel and mags.

Actually that's good you brought up the 7.62X39 conversion, I thought there was more that needed swapped out.
    Thanks.
