I am designing my own version of the 308 AR-16 right now and thinking about a gas system that doesn't weigh too much. I'm not sure I'll go to using titanium but I'm still sorting out designs.

one more stupid question chopper..... where is the hole for the gas port? is that the one that is punched from the top through to the barrel and if so how does the gas not just escape as the same hole is punched through the spigot?

edit.... nevermind i noticed the hole is only halfway through as there is no scallop on the top of the spigot!
    Thanks again chopper!

Great design. I will try that out soon.

Here are some ideas to make this quick-adjustable:

Drill gas entry holes of different diameter radially where your through hole with the set screw is. (these holes only go to the axial hole and not all the way through)
Move the pin that holds the spigot in place off center towards the barrel, like the barrel pin of an AK. This pin engages in a circular grove in the spigot. Now we can rotate the spigot and select one of the ports we drilled before. A spring loaded indexing ball installed in the gas block would hold the spigot in the right position.

Huh, looks more like a "traditional" impingement setup than the AR's system does.

Nice job. Good to see people trying new things.
