    Default Retro 603 clone

Been seeing some Retro pics and decided to grab a kit before they are gone.
Nodak M16A1 retro lower with all the markings from Ident Markings.Got tired of looking for a barrel and reprofiled a Colt '97 A2 1/7 .Got barrel parked and FSB mounted over the rainy weekend and assembled the bits.

    very nice!

i am working on a very old "colt" slab-side upper build. mine is not going to be as pretty or period accurate as yours.

i am raiding all my parts bins. it will have a DTI 1-9" twist 20" pencil barrel and vintage stocks , three prong FH , de-milled colt fire control group,--

i just realised somethng-- i am going to have to do SOMETHING with those a1 style rear sights!

LOL those little peep-holes didn't look so small decades ago---LOL

    Thumbs up

Nice. Except for the cleaning kit, which they never gave us.
Looks period accurate, even down too the 20 round mags.
Oh. No bayos. We sent those too the Marines.

Very clean and authentic looking. Maybe a prong-type flashhider would add some history.

In Vietnam we could not get 30 rd mags issued or bayonets. Airforce had the 30 rd mags and supply sat on the issue of bayonets. Typical gov't BS.

Dang,How about the sunscreen...er...a Sunburn Preventative Preparation (cream paste) and Insect Repellent ,75% DEET in 25% Denatured Ethanol ?
Date on bottle says Dec 1966,I just looked at some Deep Woods Off and it was just the opposite 25% DEET and 75% "other ingredients".

Visually the forgings are a little too late for the 3 prong FH.

Great stuff for getting the leaches off just before dark thirty.

Viper Dude. Some may have remained.
But they got rid of those damn prongs, by the time I crossed the pond.
Nothing like walking around with a pitch fork in front of you.
Darn things got stuck on everything.
