As I posted later in the thread, the HF 20 ton press needs a 1.5" adapter so excuse the typo in the thread title.
I'm making press adapters for removing AK barrel pins. The 1" adapter fits the ram on the Harbor Freight 12 ton presses, the 1.5" adapter fits the 20 ton press. Each adapter comes with a long and a short hardened steel pin, extra pins are 5 pins for $1. Please specify whether you want extra long pins, short pins, or a combination of both. The adapters are $25 shipped priority mail to anywhere in the US.
I got mine this morning. It looks better than the photos that were posted in this thread. My 4 year old son told me that he wanted to help me with my AK build, so I let him try to remove the barrel pin with the adaptor on my 12 ton press. I didn't think he would be able to do it because he could barely reach the jack handle, but he pushed that pin right out as easy as taking apart tinker toys. :thumbup1: The adaptor with the long pin didn't push the pin all of the way out, because the adaptor touched the trunion before the pin fell out, but with a light tap with a brass punch, it fell right out. It must not have been more than a mm left in the trunion. It was definitely worth the money.

Hmmm, sounds like the basis for an advertising slogan:
Barrel pin stuck? With a Pin Buster, a 4 year old can push them out.

I ran into that doing the photo demo last week, thought it was because the kit I used hadn't been stripped of the reciever stub and the rivet heads were still in place. If it becomes an issue I'll switch to 1 5/8" for the long pins.
I think there are at least three possible reasons why it sometimes doesn't push the pins all of the way out. One could be that some models of AK may have slightly wider trunions than others. Another possible reason could be that the hole in the pin buster may be slightly longer in some than others. Another reason is that the pins may vary in length by a mm or so. A combination of the three might be the most likely cause. After using the pin buster, it only took a light hit to get the barrel pin the rest of the way out, using a brass punch and a small plastic mallet. I placed the barrel assy on a piece of wood with a hole in it to hold it steady when I tapped the pin the rest of the way out.
+1 for Defender's post, I got mine yesterday, and for such a simple tool, it is seriously nice! I look forward to many happy pin pushing escapades Thx Butch!
I used my adapter last night on the Romy kits, two were easily pressed out, the last was an underfolder that was realy stuck. I just kept applying moderate pressure and out she came. Thanks for an excellent piece of equipment Butch.
Not only is Tailgunner a great guy to do business with....this little unit is slicker than piss on a plate!!
I used it on my Romy G last night....and all I can say is..."BAM!"
Oh....and get a couple extra pins. I broke one of the long pins, but it still worked perfectly. I think the pin broke because I didn't have the trunion completely level. This thing is idiot proof. If I can use it....ANYONE can!! Thanks TG!!
I finally got to try out the pin tool. It works great. Thank you for making a good product at a reasonable price. I look forward to doing business with you again.
I have to say this is one of the ONLY tools that will have the guts to take out a stuck Romy barrel pin. I broke severel tools before I got this one and have to say it is the best thing out there. Just make sure you buy a few extra punches. I have punched out a lot of barrel pins and only broke one of the punches due to my own carelessness, but is was nice to just pull it out with a pair of pliers, put in a new one and continue working.
tailgunner - do you have any of these left? If you do, I'll measure and get the diameter I need, and would like to order one, along with some extra pins. Thanks!
