Its my understanding one can use a live round or fired case as a go gauge. To be safe one should test firearms with a No Go gauge.

THIS IS NOT THE CORRECT WAY TO DO THIS. A FIRED ROUND WILL BE SIZED TO WHAT EVER CHAMBER IT WAS FIRED FROM AN YOU HAVE NO IDEA IF ITS CORRECT . A LIVE ROUND IS NOT A GUAGE AN IT MIGHT BE WITH IN SPEC AN IT MIGHT NOT IT MIGHT BE ON THE TIGHT SIDE OR IT MIGHT BE ON THE LOOSE SIDE OR IT MIGHT BE COMPLETLY OUT OF SPEC.

BUY THE RIGHT GUAGES . A NO GO WILL TELL YOU IF THE HEAD SPACE IS TO TIGHT BY HOW MUCH IS ANYONES GUESS. THE PROPER WAY IS TO SET THE BARREL TO WERE THE GO GUAGE FITS AN THE NO GO DOSENT THEN YOU KNOW YOUR SOME WERE INTHE APROXIMENTLY .005" AREA THAT IS ACCEPTIABLE. I SET MY GUNS ON THE TIGHT SIDE THERE MORE ACCURATE THAT WAY FWIW.

IS IS POSSABLE TO USE A GO GUAGE AN A SHIM (IF YOU KNOW THE DIFERANCE BETWEEN THE GO AN NO GO) . YOU ADD A SHIM TO THE GO GUAGE TO MAKE IT A NO GO. FOR EXAMPLE IF YOU ADD A .004" SHIM TO THE GO GUAGE AN THE BOLT WILL NOT COLOSE YOU KNOW THE BARREL IS SET WITH IN .004" OF BEING TO TIGHT. YOU WILL NEED TO KNOW THE DIFFERANCE FROM THE DATUM LINE T OF A GO AN A NO GO TO BE ABLE TO DO THIS.

JUST BUY THE RIGHT GUAGES. SELL THEM HERE IF YOU DONT WANT THEM WHEN DONE FOR MOST OF WHAT YOU PAID.
