The Rustoleum paint will come off with lacquer thinner when the novelty of a "gold plated" Ak wears off or he gets too much ribbing at the range, whichever comes first.

Gold irridite galvanizing is probably what h's talking about. Its a zinc dip hot galvanizing. I have no idea if theres anyone that does sort of finish on firearms but it might be cool.

I've always wanted to chrome my AK. They look pretty sick when chromed.

I think chrome or gold would look too blingy (is that a word?); you'd have to get some gold teeth to match it.

Dark / black chrome looks pretty cool...

    Anodizing is for Alumn.
I have nickel and gold plated Ak's before, and they turn out great if the prep work is done right.
I prefer electrolsis nickel, also called e-nickel. It will have a dull finish if the surface is coarse bead blasted, and shiny if the surface is polished.

If you bake rustolium at 300 degrees for approx 45 minutes you won't wash it of with any solvent. although not in instructions it works. marv
