    Default The Devil Has Arrived!~

This is a short review of the Vulcan V15 Carbon-Aramid Lower Receiver.

It has been 5 years since I last touched one of these lowers. Until recently, I would have passed on them, and gone with something else just because of the name. Things change when economics change.

I suckered two of my friends into this deal with me, simply because misery loves company.

    We bought three lowers direct from Vulcan. It took 6 days from order to arrival (in late February 2009) for the lowers to arrive. Add in the 10 day mandatory waiting period in Kalifornia, and here we are today. I ordered a lower parts kit from Del-Ton at the same time....That will take some more time. So;

I dissected my AR and transferred all of the parts to the new Vulcan lower. Everything went in like it had eyes! No issues with fit or finish.

Function check revealed an issue; the bolt was hanging up half way, and the read pin had to be pulled in order to get the bolt to fly home.

Turns out that I have an old style hammer with a notch on the upper rear quadrant, the new style has a radiused rear quarter only.

I will take it out this weekend for a 500 round torture test.

All I have to say is; Tight Fit

I'm one of the two other guys Bellson 'suckered' into buying one. My kit isn't in yet, but I've looked at his assembled AR. Good fit and finish. Will do a detailed inspection later today and take some pictures for him to post later.

    Default Update!!!!

    Here are some pics....

#1 and #2 should give you an idea of the appearance.

#3 shows the overall width of the receiver channel. Based on my measuring, it "could" take an auto sear. But that would be badddd!!!!!

#4 and #5 show the overall appearance, and the fit of upper and lower.

#5 Details my hammer, the one thing I did have to take a file to. Not too much though.

Vulcan or not, this is a good, IN SPEC Lower.

My cost, $80.00 for the lower. $30.00 for DROS (Kalifornia State fees), and $11.16 for tax and shipping. Total: $121.16

    Default More Info

Just so that everyone is aware....

Yes, These are Marked "Vulcan Arms"

    BUT!

They were made under contract by Bushmaster. These are the "Poor Man's Carbon 15".

The only examples of Carbon Aramid lowers that are not this quality from Vulcan are the V18 Lowers (Not AR compatible) and some of the early ones that were actually made by Cavalry Arms, but not completed to 100%. Those are all gone now. These lowers with serial numbers BELOW 15000 are the good ones. JRS and I have ones numbered 05XXX and are consecutive. The third guy has the first number in the series of three. That means that there are potentially 10000 more of these in the Vulcan warehouse. I have gotten some conflicting information in terms of the numbers of lowers made for Vulcan, ranging from 5000 to 25000. I am going with the middle of the road. All I can say is that MY lower and the other two are every bit as good as Bushmaster, and exhibit the same injection marks in the EXACT same places.

I honestly think that these are a steal given the current market. I will be buying several more.
