#5 bent or binding gas tube.

#6 misaligned , ill fitting or lose gas block.

#7 ammunition that is defective (this should probably be higher up the chart it should probably be #1 or #2 on the list IMHO)

    # 8 binds in the upper,or lower--something could be going "bump" in there when it ain't supposed to-

a 16" middy should be able to run about anything ammo wise mine will run anything but that bad batch of tula i got and it didn't want to run in an AK =so it was some bad stuff.

#9 the bolt carrier might have a too tight a fit to the bolt. this is only a thing on a new BCG every once in a while. i think i have seen like ONE that was too tight over the years.

You might also try a McFarland Spiral Ring. I have had good success with them.

    Available on Armalite.com.

Do run through all of the other checks as well. They are all valid.

I had the same problem with a recent build. While everyone told me it was a “steel” ammo problem, I found that hard to accept (a battle gun should “run” with anything, right?)
    Anyway what we found:
-blocked gas port (paint and grease or cosmoline in the port)
    -rough chamber (polished)
-buffer (too long)- we shaved about an 1/8" off the rubber on the back

After those fixes (it drove me crazy) the gun runs like a champ with any mag / ammo combination. Hope this helps.

Check the gas port in barrel for burrs or steel chip left behind from drilling, check for copper shavings lodged in port from a sharp port edge, use a long pipe cleaner to poke in gas tube into the gas block Good luck
